Robotics and Automation with TRS (Thai Robotics Society)Speaker
SummaryRoles of TRS (Thai Robotics Society) are mainly to promote and distribute robotics technology for Thailand academic society including coordinate with other local and international associations to enable collaborative research network in order to strengthen higher education. Medical robots are a very extensive area of research topics in Thailand, especially rehabilitation robots. We developed many types of rehabilitation robots for stroke patients such as upper extremity exoskeleton, wrist exoskeleton, lower extremity exoskeleton, single-plane end-effector, and multi-plane end-effector. The development criteria are well defined together with medical doctors from the department of rehabilitation, faculty of medicine, Chulalongkorn hospital. Two control strategies: active assistive mode with adjustable resistive force and repetitive speed, based on impedance force control, for patients who have some difficulty in moving his hand or physically weak muscle. The impedance models, suitable for rehabilitation are developed, have been purposed for the torque control scheme. The resistive mode for a patient who want to improve his hand motion or after finishing the active assistive with adjustable resistive operation training program. Each jointed of the exoskeleton robots is actuated by a brushless DC servomotor with the indirect force measurement. From clinical trial of all the developed robots, we are confirmed that robot-assisted therapy is a very effective method for promoting motor recovery in patients with neurological deficit. ProfileViboon Sangveraphunsiri is the Professor of Mechanical Engineering, Chulalongkorn University. He received the B.Eng. degree in Mechanical Engineering from Chulalongkorn University in 1978, and received MS.ME. and Ph.D. degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, U.S.A., in 1980 and 1984 respectively. Since the graduation, he has joined the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Chulalongkorn University, as a faculty staff. He has worked in various areas as Dynamic Control and Robotics: advanced control systems, force control, computer vision, manipulators, autonomous mobile robots, CAD/CAM/Rapid-prototype in product design and manufacturing. In 2008, he founded the Regional Center of Robotics Technology, Chulalongkorn University, to be a research center in the areas of Advanced Control of Dynamic Systems and Robotics. The research works of the center are more toward medical robots especially in stroke rehabilitation as well as robots for industrial applications. He received the Thailand Outstanding Researcher Award in 2016 and the Outstanding Technologist Award in 2017. Read More
